Grožnjan is a beautiful medieval small town that is well worth a visit. The original beauty has been preserved in the old walls, fortresses and churches. The key point in the history of Grožnjan was at the beginning of the twentieth century, when a railway line was built from Grožnjan. As a result, the production of local wine was developed and trade with neighboring countries was strengthened. Many artists, musicians, sculptors and painters came to Grožnjan since 1956 and have thus saved this beautiful mountain village with its historic buildings from its declined. Over time the village became known as "City of Artists" and today it is one of the most popular places for a creative holiday. Every summer, from end of June to middle of September, young musicians meet in Grožnjan and contribute with there concerts to the extravagant flair of the village. After a stroll through a medieval streets with its small galleries, a visit to the café/bar Kaya, opposite the church, is highly recommended (the cake and the smoothies are excellent).
